Confused and alone: I don't think you really know who you are. You come across as bitter, angry and resentful and an ugly personality who seems to care nothing for others outside of your own group.

You also don't seem to be able to follow simple logical arguments or else deliberately misquote and mischaracterise what others have said in the mistaken belief it will convince the casual reader that you have a point or some sort of argument.

For us in the Muslim world female circumcision is, above all else, obedience to Islam, which means acting in accordance with the fitrah and following the Sunnah which encourages it. We all know the dimensions of Islam, and that everything in it must be good in all aspects, including health aspects. If the benefits are not apparent now, they will become known in the future, as has happened with regard to male circumcision – the world now knows its benefits and it has become widespread among all nations despite the opposition of some groups. http://islamqa.info/en/45528

The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, soon the Son of Maryam) will descend among you as a just judge, he will break the cross, kill the pigs and abolish the jizyah, and wealth will become so abundant that no one will accept it.” Ibn Battaal (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The reason for breaking the cross and killing the pigs is because they are part of the religion of the Christians who are fabricators and transgressors. http://islamqa.info/en/171711

Praise be to Allaah. If it is proven that your brother’s husband is as you describe him and that he is a homosexual and does the action of the people of Loot, then it is not permissible – in this case – for your husband to admit him to his house, let alone allow him to meet his sons. It is also not permissible for him to ask you to show respect to him, because he is not one of those who are deserving of respect; rather he is one of those who are deserving of rebuke and shunning, and he deserves to be shown hostility because of what he is, not to be respected, because what he is doing is a grave evil, immorality, and act of disobedience. The major sin that he is doing – if it is proven – is one of the most horrid and repulsive of major sins. Hence those who do it are deserving of the greatest punishment such as landslides, stoning and drowning such as no nation of disbelievers were punished with before or since. http://islamqa.info/en/175478

If your husband reviles Islam and does not pray, then it is not permissible for you to stay married to him, because the one who reviles Islam is a disbeliever according to scholarly consensus, and the one who does not pray out of laziness is also a disbeliever, according to the more correct of the two scholarly opinions. http://islamqa.info/en/164750

These people whose hands and feet the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) cut off and left them in the open did not accept the mercy of Allah; they spread mischief in the land, shed blood that was protected by Islamic law, and harmed the slaves of Allah. So it was essential to eradicate them and rid the land and people of them. Such people cause trouble and spread mischief, and if no one puts a stop to them with a firm hand, they will not be prevented from spreading mischief in the land. Thus they become like a diseased limb in the body, when it is injured and becomes infected, and the infection slowly starts to spread; then there is no option but to cut it off and eliminate it; if it is not eliminated and is left as it is, the entire body will die because of it. “The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.” http://islamqa.info/en/178689

“There is no compulsion in religion” means: the religion of Islam is very clear and its proof of its soundness is self-evident, so there is no need to compel anyone to enter this religion. Rather anyone who has sound understanding will enter it of his own accord, without compulsion. This is indicated by the words, “Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path” [al -Baqarah 2:256], i.e., it is clear that Islam is the right path and kufr is the wrong path, so there is no need for compulsion after this has become clear. End quote from at-Tasheel, p. 135 As-Sa‘di (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This refers to the perfection of Islam, because its proofs are perfect and the signs of its soundness are clear. Because it is the religion of reason and knowledge, the religion of sound human nature and of wisdom, the religion of righteousness and piety, the religion of truth and guidance, and it is perfect and acceptable to human nature, there is no need to compel anyone to enter it, because compulsion is only needed in the case of that which is off-putting and contrary to the facts and truth, or that of which the proofs and signs are not clear. Otherwise, anyone who comes to know this religion then rejects it and does not accept it, it is because of his stubbornness, because right path has become distinct from the wrong path, so no one has any excuse for rejecting it and not accepting it. There is no contradiction between this idea and the many verses that speak of jihad. Allah enjoined fighting so that the religion (worship) will all be for Allah alone and to ward off the aggression of those who are hostile towards Islam. The Muslims are unanimously agreed that jihad is ongoing and that jihad in word and in deed is a permanent obligation. Any commentator who thinks that this verse contradicts the verses of jihad, and is certain that it has been abrogated, holds a weak view, as is obvious from the wording and the meaning and as is clear to anyone who studies the verse, as we have pointed out. End quote from Tafseer as-Sa‘di, p. 954 http://islamqa.info/en/178756

If the daughter refuses to wear hijab, then she should be forced to wear it; it is not permissible to be lenient towards her in that regard. Rather if one of the parents tells the daughter to take off her hijab, it is not permissible for her to obey them in that, because there is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator. http://islamqa.info/en/212658

As Islam calls for reform and purification, it has enjoined everyone who adheres to it and believes in its principles to strive hard to rid people of evil and warn them against it. This is enshrined in one of the great principles of this religion, namely enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, which is a shar’i obligation upon all Muslims, each according to his situation and ability. The tools of immorality have no protection in Islamic sharee’ah, rather sharee’ah does not acknowledge them as property, so they are worthless items, which deserve to be destroyed, so they must be demolished and wiped out. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa(28/113): It is permissible to destroy evil, whether it takes a tangible or intangible form, such as idols that are worshipped instead of Allaah, because their images are evil and it is permissible to destroy them. If they are made of stone, wood and the like, it is permissible to break them and burn them. The same applies to musical instruments, such as drums. It is permissible to destroy them according to the majority of fuqaha’, and this is the view of Maalik and the more well known of the two reports narrated from Ahmad. The same applies to vessels of alcohol; it is permissible to break them and make holes in them, and the shops in which wine is sold may be burned down. Ahmad stated that, as did some of the Maalikis and others, following the report narrated from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him), that he instructions that a shop belonging to Ruwayshid al-Thaqafi in which alcohol was sold was to be burned, and he said: You are fuwaysiq (an evildoer) not ruwayshid (one who is guided). Similarly, the caliph ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him) burned a village in which alcohol was sold, as was narrated by Abu ‘Ubaydah and others, because the place where it is sold is like the vessels in which it is sold. This is also the well known view of Ahmad, Maalik and others. End quote. See: al-Mawsoo’ah al-Fiqhiyyah (36/34). http://islamqa.info/en/104043

Praise be to Allaah. Defaming the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is a kind of kufr. If that is done by a Muslim then it is apostasy on his part, and the authorities have to defend the cause of Allaah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) by executing the one who defamed him. If the one who defamed him repents openly and is sincere, that will benefit him before Allaah, although his repentance does not waive the punishment for defaming the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which is execution. If the person who defames him is a non-Muslim living under a treaty with the Muslim state, then this is a violation of the treaty and he must be executed, but that should be left to the authorities. If a Muslim hears a Christian or anyone else defaming the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) he has to denounce him in strong terms. It is permissible to insult that person because he is the one who started it. How can we not stand up the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? It is also obligatory to report him to the authorities who can carry out the punishment on him. If there is no one who can carry out the hadd punishment of Allaah and stand up for the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) then the Muslim has to do whatever he can, so long as that will not lead to further mischief and harm against other people. But if a Muslim hears a kaafir defaming the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he keeps quiet and does not respond for fear that this person may then defame him even more, this is mistaken thinking. With regard to the verse (interpretation of the meaning): “And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides Allaah, lest they insult Allaah wrongfully without knowledge” [al-An’aam 6:108], http://islamqa.info/en/14305

'I am certainly not advocating a laid-back approach to terrorism' - good for you! And I'm not becoming a 'wild-eyed fanatic' either.

Do accept that you've placed the players in this drama the wrong way round? This point is crucial in our understanding of the Islamist vs everyone else conflict.

    Hi LoveUniHateExams,

I obviously have not explained myself very well.

However, I am presently in transit back to site ( I do Fly-In Fly-out work in the mines), hastily writing this from the Qantas club at Melbourne airport, and have to run to catch my next flight! As soon as possible (it won't be today, though) I will attempt to explain what I really meant.

Fgm is not an Islamic practice, it doesn't exist in most of the Muslim world and never has. It's a cultural practice in parts of Africa that has come to coexist with Islam (and christianity) in some places.

'Fgm is not an Islamic parctice ...' - good, so FGM can be ruthlessly eliminated in Western society and you won't squeal 'islamophobia'?

LUHE - and that is why the UK has prohibited FGM but is tolerant of Islam. Laika is correct - FGM is not mandated by Islam at all rather Islam is used to justify a barbaric practice that occurs in Northern Africa only.

Qcmbr - it is easy to find some extremist site from which you can take quotes that look bad - what steps did you take to determine whether that site represents the views of mainstream Islam - I would suggest to you very strongly it does not.

I find this whole thread to be based on emotion over reason, with a very poor understanding of Islam but more importantly a lack of any interest in learning about the Humanist stream in Islam (the Itjihadis) who encourage tolerance and resist those extremists who deliberately misuse the concept of jihad (struggle) to justify terrorism. The terroible events of 9/11 has left the US with a distorted and vitriolic hatred of Islam and Muslims, which resulted in some of the worse strategic blunders of recent times - the invasion of Iraq, which created the pre-conditions for IS to become the force it has become.

Terrorism is not the preserve of Islam either - the Zionists had terrorist groups and used terrorist tactics to get rid of the Brits from Palestine. The IRA is example of a terrorist group whcih identified with a particular branch of Christianity (Catholicism).

Islam is not better or worse that other religions - as an Atheist I do not find it persuasive in the same way I don't find Mormonism persuasive. Nor is Islam alone in using religion to justify the use of violence - Christianity did it for centuries - the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition being classic example.

Simon - as the convenor of this forum I am surprised at your instigating this thread and flaming the fans of hatred.
