Does anyone play the drums?
by Schism inwhile we are on the subject of singing and piano lessons, i figured i'd ask this question.. i play guitar (some piano), and sing, and i am desperately wanting to have and play the drums.
it's been on my mind for quite a while now, and it's almost like when i was 12 and had the "guitar fever" and i wouldn't shut up about it until my dad would get me one.
i'm starting to talk about drums every day.

The Society Isn't about Money. The Governing Body isn't the Illuminati.
by under_believer inno, it's not a vast conspiracy for the governing body to get rich.
it's about power and control, but not personal power and control.
the watchtower society is a living, nigh-sentient entity unto itself.

Scientology??
by Junction-Guy inwell i know very little about scientology, but from what i have seen on this board, alot of xjw's feel it is even worse than jw's.
what is it about scientology that makes it seem worse?
the reason i ask is i was passing through cincinnati the other day returning home from dayton and there was a scientology church in downtown cincinnati.

Deception in the Elder/MS Appointment Arrangement
by deaconbluez inthe society claims that all appointments of elders and ministerial servants in the congregation are made by holy spirit.
now, the inexperienced or new witness is under the impression that jehovah, by means of his holy spirit, puts it into the hearts and minds of the body of elders that so-and-so is ready to serve, and the appointment happens accordingly.. but they actually employ a sort of deception with this process, because when they say, "holy spirit directs all appointments of men in the congregation", they actually mean that each brother considered for appointment is examined to see if he has the qualities listed by paul in his letter to timothy about the qualities of congregation shepherds.
so they reason that since that writing of paul's was inspired by holy spirit, then by extension, the appointments which happen as a result of using that list of qualities to examine an individual, the appointment is made by holy spirit.. this is like saying that people are hand-picked by simon for american idol because the regional producers of the show use a list of things to look for in contestants and that list just happened to be written by simon.

Finally bought Crisis of Conscience today...
by deaconbluez into be honest, the first chapter is awful, horribly written, and feels almost like the author feels he has to justify himself with the book.. now, that being said, the chapters on legalism and double standards, 1975, "this generation", and so forth are brilliant, powerful, and should be read by every one of jehovah's witnesses.. just my thoughts..

A df''d jw was in today and very depressed
by hambeak ina new customer was in the shop today, he saw the insight books on a table and we got to talking.
he told me he was disfellowshipped and he is totally depressed.
i talked to him and directed him to this board and maybe read the coc book and he then became quite visibly nervous about apostates and apostate literature even being around one.

Our Witness daughter is not allowed to talk to us.
by Dogpatch infrom mercury online in the u.k.. our witness daughter is not allowed to talk to us.. they were once devoted believers-but a husband and wife say their faith has been tested and their family torn apart after they were thrown out of the jehovah`s witnesses.
members of the bradwell congregation- including their only child, a daughter- are now forbidden from speaking to david and brenda gibbons since they were forced to leave.
they were thrown out by a judicial committee at great yarmouth kingdom hall in july, after writing a letter containing personal criticism to another member of the congregation.
