A "sex" Question (possible fluff)
by moman inhow does your "on screen" sexual-personality line up with your "in person everyday" one?.
for example: some posters are very liberated & graphic on-line when discussing sex, but to their mate or to the average person on the street they may seem like "old-dubs" or just very conservative.. please answer honestly & give me a break, this might be my first "fluffer"

JW preoccupation with sugar/candy
by LDH inwhen i saw syn's post about cake night, i laughed out loud.

My grandfather used to keep his pockets stuffed full of candy for us kids at the hall. I think the only way I would be able to get my son to sit for 2 hours during a meeting was to keep handing him goodies. At the Catholic church that we sometimes attend with my husband, everyone stands, kneels, sits and sings throughout the service. My sister once attended church with us and she commented "No wonder your kids were bored at the kingdom hall, This is like exercising, and they let you eat the bread and wine? The J.W.s just pass it around, no wonder they need to bring their own munchies."

Intro & Urgent Request
by doinmypart ini have been lurking on this & other boards for a couple of years.

Welcome doinmypart!!!!!!!
I must say, I am impressed.
This couldnt have been easy for you to do. You have my respect.
Your letter hits on some points I have been pondering.
I see they are covering their tracks and changing their stance on witnesses being Scripturally free and when its "acceptable" to the society to divorce and remarry. Too bad my mother wasnt going through her divorce now instead of 30 years ago. Back then, if she would have remarried she would have been disfellowshipped. They said abandonment wasnt enough grounds to remarry and she would have had to locate my father and prove adultry first. Well, after hiring a private detective during my teenage years she finally found the proof they "needed". We found out my father had daughter with another woman a year after he left my mother. During that entire time, she remained single and we were without a father because a few old farts on the governing body said it wasnt right "according to the bible" for her to be with another man. I wonder if my mother knows about this change. Im sure my family knows, since some of my uncles are elders. They must have read the same letter. I doubt they would rush out to tell my mother though.
Another point I found interesting was the part about an elder having to step down if his wife or child was doing wrong by the society.
That must be why my uncle had to step down. My cousin was getting wild during her teenage years and I heard my family buzzing about my uncle stepping down because he didnt think it was right to be serving the congregation when his daughter was having so many troubles.
Yea right, the local congregation informed the elders about my cousins rebelious activities and they made my uncle step down from his position as an elder.
This is so much more involved than most people realize. Its all about control. They know now that they dont want to be held responsible so they are changing the doctrines and saying its to help the witnesses.
It will always amaze me how people can be lied to for so long and continue to accept it day after day without question even though the truth constantly slaps them in the face.Thank you so much for sharing the letter!
Im looking forward to hearing much more from you. -

Do you believe in fate?
by butalbee indo you believe that two people are just meant to be, no matter the circumstances involved, or the differences that keep them apart?
this has been a question that i have been living with for some time.
actually, i guess it's been what i have been living for--the dogma, i guess, i'll call it, that i have hoping for: "if two people are meant to be together, they will find their way back to one another.".

I do.

Society interferes in marriage AGAIN.
by dmouse inive not been so angry for a long time.. the watchtower article entitled jehovah hates the course of treachery in the may 1st 2002 issue is a masterpiece of bullshit.
there are so many points in it i feel that i should make more than one thread.. in this thread i will deal with the issue of marriage discussed from paragraph 13 onwards.
paragraph 15 warns against marrying an unbeliever and confirms the societys view that only jehovahs witnesses will survive armageddon, so why bother marrying someone who will die soon?.

They must be having major issues with witnesses leaving because of their non believing spouses lately. They seem to have periods where its important to marry in the Org. But then its not such a big deal somtimes as long as they are studying. Oh, who knows anymore. They flip flop so much.
My family wasnt too worried when I married a catholic because most of the women in my family married non believers and managed to get the guys baptized within a couple years.
Well, lookie how things turned out instead!
I guess things dont always go as planned. Thank God! -

Nic,
I know all to well.
All I do at this point is point out scriptures that prove them wrong. But they always have an explanation. Even if its "well we just dont take that literal". Puhleeease! Im like, "so you take the first sentence literal but not the second"? One of my uncles once asked me "who have you been talking to". Freaked me out! Im like "I've just been reading the bible". Yea' right. And every website and book I can find on the history of Jehovahs witnesses. Good luck with your sister. Im lucky. At least My sister listened to me. She was upset but shes pretty smart so it didnt take her long to realize the truth about the Org. -

My entire childhood was an embarrasment but the funniest thing at the kingdom hall was when my grandfather used to carry the microphone and fart all the way down the aisle. My grandma wanted to crawl under her seat. Hilarious!! He used to sing the Happy Birthday or Christmas songs all the time, out the blue, just to embarrass my grandmother. He was so funny.

Make love.
Sweat it out!Seriously,
Rekless gave a recipe for a hot brandy drink. My mother in-law has used that recipe for years. We call it a hot toddi. It does seem to work. Maybe just because it helps knock you out. Take care & get some rest. You should be in bed right now. I hope you are using a laptop! -

I came here to get different points of view on things that I have been learning about the W.T.S. Much of it is still quite new to me. I actually found out about the U.N. cover up and the Dateline segment from this board. When I first arrived, I jumped right into the doctrinal debate threads. I now find myself taking a break from those once in awhile. It can be exhausting because it is such a sensitive subject for most of us.
I like dropping in even when I dont feel like discussing the W.T.S.
If Im getting burnt out on the religion thing, I just click onto another topic. The funny threads do break things up a bit.
It is nice to be around others that have somthing in common with you.
Its like, you all know where Im comming from ya' know? -

Nic,
Im in the same situation.
My family are all witnesses.
Im also afraid if I push much harder they will totally distance themselves from me. Im already suspect because I have a hard time keeping quiet when they get preachy. I know they all talk about me being on the road to self distruction etc.
Its hard when everything is so apparent to me but they still have blinders on.
