re-read my post. The universal concepts of justice and personal responsibility. Ethical responsible reasonable people would do the opposite of the behaviors I mentioned. Think about it.

Just one point...if it's in the papers, it's news, and it's not the norm. That's why it's news.

Tina described what the general consensus of humanity would consider 'good'. Just because lot's of non-JWs are 'bad' (as evidenced in the newspaper) doesn't excuse the 'bad' the JWs do. In a simple sense they suck the blood out of their community and give nothing back (literal blood and figuratively). That's not 'good'. That helps nobody.
As for the newspaper, of course there's lot's of 'bad' there - that's what sells papers. You don't read in the paper about the person who just donated $100 to Red Cross. Or helped a homeless person w/ a meal or a $1 or 2. Or the shelters. This concept of the world being SO evil is left in your mind from JW days - where they pounded that into your head. Yes, the average person makes themselves priority #1 - you have to to surive. But the vast majority of people in the world are not out trying to harm others. If they were we really would be in a mess.
When it somes to community responsibility the JWs take, take, take, take and return nothing. Not even among themselves - where the standard response of the elders to a Jw in need is 'what gov't resorces have you checked into'?

but in isolated cases. Does the catholic church encourage men to assault altar boys? NO. In fact, the pope even apologized recently for the sins of his parishoners. Yet the JW's hide it. I know personally of three people who were sexually abused and nothing was done to the criminal......
just an example.

No matter how some may want to rationalize this,their negative behaviors are problematic. On both a societal and individual level it's xenophobic. And where's the good in that?
When they dehumanize others,perpetuate inequality,prevent their own from fulfilling their full human potential,it's evil. And as you mentioned they have no moral qualms about taking all they can from the system,yet find it morally repugnant to give back to it. D-D is not giving back to the community.
I think the baseline problem here is sleepy is asking us to find balance in an organization that is so heavily skewed and imbalanced. Can't be done.

Sleepy,during WW2 there were nice German people who were Nazi`s. All they did was support an organization that exterminated millions of people.They didn`t actually do it themselves they just supported a group that would do that kind of an evil thing.Are they as guilty as the people that did the actual killing?Dam Right they were!They were accomplices,or partners in crime!If you take part,any part,in murder you are a muderer.If you take part in a bank robbery,you are a bank robber.This is common law in any country.Jws support an evil orginization,they are accomplices in evil.They maybe good to their pets and nice to their friend`s,but they still support an organization that wants to exterminate 6 billion people.And whether they like it or not they are just as guilty as the organization they support.People who do not seperate themselves from this,will be judged alongside the evil they support,and no amount of whineing will change that...OUTLAW

When you were a JW, did you consider yourself the moral equivelent of a Nazi or a bank robber? I agree with Sleepy and Frenchy, that most rank and file JWs are decent people. Many of you say he's wrong by attacking the system, which I think, misses his point. I also think that most people who leaave, don't change much. Those who were nice before are nice now. Those who were vengeful then are vengeful now, etc, etc, etc.
