An Old Argument.... does it hold water?

"Personal gain" is the argument. Christains believe God is love. The debate is why we believe God is love only by what we experience personally.

    We keep it personal.

I do not assume the millions of hungry babies are being ingored by JHVH. How do YOU know The God is not comforting them? You seem to be assuming more than you can know. Some of the people you say prove there is no God, are people who believe in him and are happier for it. They have less than nothing (do you like that one? haha) but they have The Christ, and you would take their help away? Think about it.

I will post this here (where it fits the discussion) and on Inkie's thread (where it fits the discussion).

So OTWO I think the conclusion is everything either deserves to die or wishes to die. OK? How is complaining going to HELP?

This is a point that needs to be repeated endlessly.

If you feel the need to repeat a false point endlessly, then by all means... your choice.

I wish their was a way to resolve this to everyone's satisfaction but unfortunately either seen reality must bow down to unseen whimsical intelligence or cherished belief must submit to rational logic. Someone's god has to die.

No one's 'god' has to die. Unless that would be the 'god' of intolerance and/or disrespect, and/or ridicule, and/or insults?

OTWO - Why do you care if someone thanks God for something good in their life? Why does it matter to you? If two teams are praying to the same God to let them win the game, and one of them wins (as is usually the case), I don't really think that God answered one and ignored the other, but I also don't care if they choose to pray for help and thank God for that help. What is it to me? It is between them and the God they are thanking. At least they are showing respect and gratitude... and how do you know that the person isn't thanking God for the strength and forebearance that allowed them to get to where they are? Or for getting through and overcoming all the difficulties and hardships in their lives, to reach this point in their life? But even if it is the same as someone 'thanking a lucky rabbit foot', how would that in any way be God's fault? How would that even mean that God is too busy with them, to help starving children?

As for that starving child... blame man (and woman), of which you are a part. We are where the fault lies.

I would say tec, that he doesn't care about people thanking God for good things in their life...but he doesn't understand why they thank him for the good and don't blame him for the bad.

    You have to admit...looking at that picture...car keys....football game...child starving...its a bit unbalanced isn't it?

Would God really be that busy helping people with the mundane and ignoring the truly needy?

    .......

That would make for a bang-em-up thread.

Dear, dear little boy, please hear this. The woman late for something who finds her keys in time, does she thank God that God found them for her, or perhaps she is thanking the god she found them before she went crazy. So really, isn't she thanking God she a resemblance of sanity remaining for the day? Which I believe (and you know I do!) is something worthy of "thanks!".

Perhaps. I'm not really sure what OTWO feels.

Humility might be one answer for that question, if it is the question. Perhaps they understand that the bad comes from us and our decisions... the good can as well, true... but the bad can not come from God. Because God is as Christ showed Him to be. Christ showed us that WE should do good to one another. Feed one another. Clothe one another. Help one another. Forgive one another. Give to everyone who asks of us. Even lay down our lives for one another. We don't do this, and we don't teach our children to do this either, (some do, yes, but mankind as a whole does not), so we are to blame. Not God. Not His Son.

I don't believe that God ignores anyone. I do believe that we ignore Him. I asked it before, but it still holds true... if we don't do what he showed us to do, then how can we blame him for how things have turned out?

    Peace,

    Tammy

Yes, God's Son said to love truth even more than one's own soul. It means we should be willing to risk our own comfort for the comfort of one who is lesser than we are. Nothing has to change hands, but the will must be real to do it. That is why trust, understanding and faith are needed. But to give up on god is to render powerless the kind of trust that will affect God's will to be done. God told the man to subdue the Earth, it is still our responsibility. That has not changed.
