    golden rule.

If you don't want to be enslaved, then do not enslave anyone else.

If you want to be free, then grant others their freedom.

    Golden rule in practice.

how many have the faith to recognize, and then trust His voice? Really hard to do if you don't even believe he exists.

Now here is the other problem with your god....most of the world do not believe in him...he only talks to those who supposedly believe in him already....and not even the majority of them....and it is somehow their fault he does not speak clearly enough to tell someone to stop a rape or child abuse....your god leaves a lot to be desired.

Maybe he should speak the hell up!

If you don't want to be enslaved, then do not enslave anyone else.

Slaves weren't considered people, in general, so that rules didn't apply.

    Tams says:

The waiting... is a mercy. So that none who belong to him are lost.

Except for those that are lost while He's waiting. Waiting for WHAT again, exactly?

My God, when will the incessant, mind-numbingly wretched use of circular logic cease? How do you get off this ride?

I feel like I'm trapped inside Tammy's vortex of Xian reasoning Merry-Go-Round! :)

He talks to many, belief or no belief. But without faith (and at the least belief), who would even think to acknowledge that it is Him, speaking.

Plus, people would have to not only hear him... but listen to him. People can't even listen to the instructions written down for them to see (feed the poor, give to he who asks of you, forgive all, etc, etc)... never mind something that requires faith.

That is just man telling himself what he wants to hear in order to justify his own desires.

Christ used parables that includes slaves as people... so not an excuse.

How do you know anyone who belongs to Him is ever lost?

He is not willing that any who belong to him will be lost.

Waiting... for all who belong to Him... to come to Him. They have not all done so yet.

Well, you could always take a flying leap... off the ride, I mean. Ahem.

    Just messin' with you ;)

Hmmm, you mean like the real people slaves found in the parable of the "Faithful and Wise Slave", which was actually a warning to the slave who actually abused the master's assets (the other slaves), and hence could expect to be disciplined within an inch of death at the end of his master's punishing rod, being "cut into pieces"?

    Like that one?

Here ya go, Tams: it's a lovely little story, fit for small children:

    Matthew 24

45 “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?

46 “Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.

47 “Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

48 “But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’

    49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards;

50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know,

51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Notice Jesus used slavery as kind of a given, accepting slavery as a "just the way it is" kind of device. He didn't begin by denounciating slavery, or anything like THAT.

So Tams, I'm dying to know: how exactly does "turn the other cheek" fit into that one? That sounds an awful lot like "eye for an eye" to me, as well an endorsement of the practice of "kind, gentle" slavery.

    Tams said:

Yeah, he didn't exactly say to "release" the head slave after beating him, did he? Nope...

You're well past arguing the absurd.... It's tune-out time.

tammy, where you getting confused is that people armagedon isnt taking action to fix problems. Its genocide. Its killing anyone who dosent do things gods way. What some are suggesting is that if god is all powerfull he should be able to answer, not just silly prayers about who is right in an internet argument, but really be effective in solving the problems of men, aside from killing those who you think are the problem.

I am open to being corrected if I am wrong. Nothing holier than thou about it...tec

It would appear some will do anything to win an argument...even twisting the meaning of others words...so they are unrecognisable by the person who said them...and then denying the intent to do just that.
