AGuest, why don't you stick to the topic instead of slinging your insults?

Well, I was hoping the thread was going to end before it got worse.

I enjoyed your posts, Nancy! How did you get a picture of my little boy at Chucki Cheese's?

Now there is some hypocrisy in that. There have been plenty of insults thrown around this thread as pertains to the believers lack of reasoning ability, logic, rationality, inability to stick to the point, comments as to mental illness, same thinking as hitler, false accusation... not to mentin anger and even hostility.

Look, I get that you don't like Shelby, and I get that she isn't overly fond of you. But being honest about the responses on this thread... you really think the hostility and insults and condescension came from believers toward non-believers? Have you read through this thread?

Jay, I see what you're saying. Like keeping a muzzle on a dangerous dog. Even though it is more often the way that dog was treated that caused him to have a problem, and then need that muzzle to begin with. And that is kind of all I see in this world... action, then consequence. We don't recognize all our actions and the consequences that come with them. Like a false accusation. Like a careless, thoughtless, callous word. Those things have consequences too. So not just a muzzle, but a silencer too! Inaction can be an evil too. An act of hypocrisy has great repercussions... people lose faith and trust in one another and all that they have been taught by that person when they see hypocrisy come from them too. Or a lie. Or whatever. Suffering comes from far, far more than simply physical. Anyone who has ever felt suffering of the spirit... (I have)... I can tell you that physical pain hurts far less.

Either way, I don't see this muzzling as working out, or even allowing us to grow as a species. But that is me. I respect that it is something you can see as working.

    Peace,

    Tammy

What I meant by this statement Tammy, is that we are our brother's keeper in a big picture way,.....
Oh I agree. Well, maybe not a keeper, because we don't own or control anyone. But responsible for their care... to the eXtent that someone wants or asks for help... oh yes. We are responsible for that. I agree.

Because here's a problem . . . why is it a "given" in this statement, that a satisfactory answer and the TRUTH are two different things?

It isn't a given (even in that statement, though I will go back and re-read it to be sure). But neither is it a given that the truth has to be something that will satisfy someone. In other words, someone's personal satisfaction in an answer has no bearing on the truth in that answer. It speaks only to their personal satisfaction on the matter.

Much of mankind's efforts are to mitigate suffering and it is only the the last 200 odd years that we have had the means and tools to do so on an industrial scale. With modern knowledge and technology it is fair to say that in the advanced countries the so called curse of Adam ( to work by sweat to eat bread ) is over; with modern pain relief and medical procedures we can alleviate gods divine punishments and we can put off the point of death by many many years; technology is so empowering ( think how much your car and the Internet allows you to do ) that is seems highly unlikely that a return to the Garden of Eden, even with its nudity enticements, would be of any real interest - who would want to return to simply gardening? We've even managed to treat eat other more fairly ( womens rights ) and with less discrimination ( gender preference acceptance ) and - for those who wish to get cosy with gods racism ( go Israel - kill all other races babies and first born) we've even moved beyond that as we undo centuries of religion enforced racial prejudice.

Biblegod must be mad at how we are messing up his punishments and discrimination. He must also be scratching his head at how for hundreds of years and billions of prayers he's managed to get by doing zip and is still loved by a hardcore for it - what a wheeze - not really the smartest bunch these humans despite that apple! So we've started to ignore him as we find the tech to do it ourselves. His model ( one-off-spit-in-mud-to-give-sight unrepeatable medicine ) is pathetic in the face of cataract surgery. Miracle healing is just an example of how useless his effects were, had the mendacious Jesus offered vaccination he'd have been onto something but instead he taught demons instead of mental illness ( condemning societies to treat all people who were mentally ill as someone to be punished or even killed - brilliant a+ Jesus), he encouraged hanky healing instead of gene therapy and he managed to even create a church that would be responsible for eons of misery and war. Yippee.

    So . . . . because some others have done it . . . AG can . . . but OTWO can't without being a hypocrit. That's logically fallacious - Appeal to the popular.

There have been plenty of insults thrown around this thread as pertains to the believers lack of reasoning ability, logic, rationality, inability to stick to the point, comments as to mental illness, same thinking as hitler ... . . . tec

My reference was said in jest, and you acknowledged that at the time . . . so you know very well it was not an insult my dear. Presenting it now us such, is misrepresenting the truth. You may think I'm a lot of things if it makes you feel better, but a liar I am not.

But you're right . . . a lack of reasoning ability, logic, rationality and an inability to confront the point, are in short supply. Now I have deep reservations about the honesty shown here.
