Why do people pretend good things about Jesus ?

Im not disputing that Jesus said nice things here and htere.

It would be kind of hard to dispute, true.

But if he was a God or son of God he should be perfect always.

    According to?

His opinions, actions and lack of actions should always be examples for all.

They are. Now whether people choose not to follow (or twist his teaching and example) is upon them.

People would abuse his words regardless, mP, if what they wanted to do was to enslave people. They would simply have redefined who qualified as human... and who did not. People who want to do wrong can always find a way to justify it to themselves, and often to others as well.

    mP:

Your point about abusing his words is well taken. By pretending he was perfect, people identify his failings, like on slavery and use that as excuse. After all Jesus was perfect never said anything about slavery it must be ok for me a white rich greedy landowner to have slaves.

If people were more honest, at the very least perhaps morality would have been harder and the masses would not have been manipulated quite as easily. Religion is the most deadly tool ever invented. With little effort you can make people do anything.

I noticed you carfully ignored my comparison between jesus and the watchtower. Pretending one entity is all perfect and then accepting their mistakes or lack thereof action or commentary is very destgructive especially when the y make mistakes.

The 'Jesus' character in the Bible is nothing more than a fictional archetype, a construct derived from earlier Jewish folklore (which Christians now refer to as 'messianic prophecies') as well as other pagan sources.

Though it is possible (but not proven) that there may have been a Jesus (or some other person or people) on whom some details were loosely based, there is no reason to believe that such a person ever actually said, did or experienced any of the things attributed to him in the Bible.

I ignored it because your word play was not relevant. For instance, love does not = armageddon, and those were the very first things that you compared.

Religion is the most deadly tool ever invented

I would not say that it is the most deadly tool, but it has certainly been used as a harmful tool to control, abuse, and commit crimes in the name of someone who, himself, said that he would say,

'away from me, you evildoers, i never knew you.'

Religion is not Christ. Religion is not God.

    love does not = armageddon

What is armageddon then? Is it an act of hatred? Punishment? Many christians can't wait until armageddon because this is when god will 'show' his love for them.

God protects those who belong to him at Armageddon... from those who seek to destroy them. He does show His love for them in protecting them (but He already showed His love for them through Christ).

I find it sad that He has to protect them in the first place.

In any case... the jw message of armageddon in no way equals love.

So armageddon is not a loving act?

**btw, it is not just JW's that can't wait for this act of love**

Longing for the destruction of others (even if they are your enemies) is not a loving act.

Protecting peaceful and loving people IS a loving act.

I know. But mP's wordplay was specific to the WTS, and this is what i responded to.
